About the Book: |
This textbook discusses the development of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines and the advantages of these machines over the conventional machine tools. Hardware requirements of NC and CNC machines, constructional details of CNC machines, manual part programming and computer assisted part programming are discussed in the text. A number of examples of part-programming for machining different jobs have been included to enable the students and shop-floor engineers to understand the concepts. Special tooling requirements of CNC machines and maintenance aspects have also been discussed.
A new chapter on CNC machines and automation has been added which the students and shop-floor engineers will find it interesting and useful.
Test items (Multiple-Choice Questions) have also been included for evaluating the learning outcomes of the students and to help the faculty in setting up the question papers of high quality and standard.
We hope that the book will be useful for the students of degree and diploma programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Machine Tool Technology and Automobile Engineering. About the Author: |
M. Adithan has served as Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering at National institute of Technical Teacher's Training and Research, Chandigarh. He has also been a Visiting Professor in Manufacturing Engineering Department at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, USA and at University Technology, Malaysia. He has also served as UNESCO Fellow at Ohio state University, Columbus, Ohio, USA. He has done B.E. (Hons.) (Mechanical Engineering) and M.Sc.( Production Engineering) from College of Engineering, Guindy, University of Madras, and Ph.D. (Mechanical Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He has published a number of research papers in national and international journals and is a co-author of several textbooks and other instructional materials. Now he is a Senior Professor in Mechanical Engineering and Dean at VIT University, Vellore, Tamilnadu.
B.S. Pabla is a Professor in Mechanical Engineering at National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research, Chandigarh. He has obtained his B.E., M.E. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Punjab University, Chandigarh. He has organized a number of training programmes in the area of Manufacturing Technology and CNC Machines: Programming and Operations. He has also published/presented many papers in national and international journals/conferences.
