About the Book:

The book provides an integrated treatment of continuous-time and discrete-time systems for two courses at postgraduate level, or one course at undergraduate and one course at postgraduate level. It covers mainly two areas of modern control theory, namely; system theory, and multivariable and optimal control. The coverage of the former is quite exhaustive while that of latter is adequate with significant provision of the necessary topics that enables a research student to comprehend various technical papers. The stress is on interdisciplinary nature of the subject. Practical control problems from various engineering disciplines have been drawn to illustrate the potential concepts. Most of the theoretical results have been presented in a manner suitable for digital computer programming along with the necessary algorithms for numerical computations.


About the Author:

Dr. M Gopal, is the Director, School of Engineering, Shiv Nadar University. He joined the University from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Delhi. His teaching and research stints span three decades at the IITs. He is a globally known academician with excellent credentials as author, teacher, researcher and administrator.

Dr. Gopal is the author/co-author of six books on Control Engineering. His books are used worldwide and some of them have been translated into Chinese and Spanish as well. In India, his books have been serving as the major source of learning in this subject, for about three decades.

As a teacher, his potential is being used globally through a video course (http://www.youtube.com/iit), which is one of the most popular courses on YouTube by the IIT faculty across India.

Dr. Gopal is a globally known researcher in the area of Machine Learning. He is the author/co-author of over 140 research papers and his key contributions have been published in high impact factor journals. He has also supervised 16 doctoral research projects. His current research interests are in the areas of Soft-Computing Technologies, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Control.

In administrative capacity, he contributed to the growth of a large department at IIT Delhi with electrical (power), electronics, communications, computer technology and information technology as the areas of activities. The department has acquired a respectable international standing in both teaching and research.

He holds his B Tech. (Electrical), M Tech. (Control Systems), and PhD degrees from BITS Pilani.
