About the Book: |
The book is a revised edition of a lucid and stimulating introductory account of Organometallic Chemistry, an exciting and rapidly developing interdisciplinary branch of science.
A characteristic feature of this book is the presentation of an integrated (covering different facets usually dealt with either in Organic or/and inorganic texts) view of the rapidly developing field of organometallic chemistry. Attempts have been made to choose the latest examples to illustrate the fundamental properties as well as the synthetic procedures of organometallic chemistry. Other features include: (a) an interesting brief historical background of the subject including some quotations from relevant Nobel lecture accounts of epoch making advances by the discoverers themselves, (b) the adoption as far as possible of the IUPAC rules of nomenclature, (c) a brief account of the rapidly emerging organometallic chemistry of the f-elements, and (d) inclusion of study questions at the end of each chapter.
During the revision of the book, the latest examples have replaced the older ones wherever feasible. The book would be extremely useful as a basic text for B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. Chemistry students.

About the Author: |
The authors, Professor Emeritus R.C. Mehrotra and Dr. A. Singh are distinguished teachers of Organometallic Chemistry at the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur (India) in a department, which continues to be the only department in the country to be recognized as a Centre of Special Assistance in Organometallic Chemistry and Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry by the University Grants Commission.
Prof. R.C. Mehrotra has been teaching and carrying out research in different fields of Chemistry since 1944 and is well known for his scholarship with numerous coveted national and international awards right upto 2000. He is member of the International Advisory Committees for International Conferences on Organosilicon and Organometallic Chemistry. The Journal of Organometallic Chemistry published a commemorative issue on his sixtieth birthday which says: We seize the opportunity to add our own tribute to Professor Mehrotra, who has given so much to organometallic chemistry, not only through his own highly productive research, but also through the numerous fine graduates from his group who have gone to contribute so effectively to the work of leading organometallic centres in many countries.
