The book is designed to bridge the gap between the artesian and engineering approaches. The contents have been aligned chronologically from solidification behaviour to fuzzy inference expert system for optimum process selection. This will help to visualize the actual situations like core/mould assembly, gating and feeding arrangements etc. Finally solidification simulation, with some practical examples, have been illustrated. About the Author: |
Prof. Goutam Sutradhar obtained B.E. (Mech.) from Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College and M.Tech. (Foundry Technology) from I.I.T. Kharagpur in 1984 and 1986 respectively. He has done Ph.D. in 1998 from B.I.T. Mesra, Ranchi. At present, he is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Joint Director at the School of Automotive Engineering, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He has served at National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology, Hatia, Ranchi, as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor during 1991-1997. He has also served at Kalyani Government Engineering College as Professor & Head of Mechanical Engineering during 2003-05. In addition to teaching, he has guided many students at M.Tech. and Ph.D. levels in the field of Manufacturing Technology. He has authored more than fifty research papers which appeared in leading Technical Journals/ Proceedings/Seminars/World Congress of National and International importance. He has acted as key person for the project sponsored by TIFAC, DST, New Delhi on Technology Gap Analysis for the Howrah Foundry Cluster. Dr Sutradhar has over 25 years of experience in Industry and Academic Institutes, along with that he is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) as well as member of many professional bodies like Society of Automotive Engineering (India), Institute of Indian Foundrymen & Life Member of Investment Casting Society (ICS), etc. He is a reputed consultant in the field of Foundry Technology. His fields of interests in research are Processing of P/M Components, Solidification Simulation of Castings/ Computer Aided Method Design of Castings, Monitoring of Green Sand System, Development of Composite Materials and Metallic Foam.
